How to Change Font to Capitalization within your Cells
in Excel

A formula can be applied to cells containing words to automatically change the words to all caps. This can save you a great deal of time that you would otherwise have to spend retyping all of the words in capitals.

Step 1

Open the Excel document that contains the words that you want to change to all caps.

Step 2

Right-click on the header of the column to the right of the column of text that you want to convert to all caps. Select the "Insert" option from the drop-down menu to insert a new column.

Step 3

Click in the cell in your new column that is directly to the right of the top cell of the column full of text that you want to convert to all caps. Type in the formula: =UPPER(A1) Replace (A1) with the number of the top cell of the column that you want to convert to uppercase font. Press the "Ctrl" and "Enter" keys on your keyboard to enter the formula while keeping the cell selected. Double-click on the small black square that appears in the bottom right corner of this cell to fill this column down with the text from the column to the left, converted to all caps.

Step 4

Press the "Ctrl," "Shift" and down arrow keys on your keyboard to select the newly created uppercase text. Click on the "Paste" option in your Excel menu. Select the "Paste Values" option in the "Special Paste" section. Press the "Ctrl" and "X" keys on your keyboard to cut out the text in all caps. Click on the first cell in the column of text that you wanted to capitalize in order to select it. Press the "Ctrl" and "V" keys on your keyboard to paste the converted text in all caps into the column.

Step 5

Right-click on the header of the now-empty right column and select "Delete" from the drop-down menu to finish changing the font of the column of text to all caps.
